Dr Garth Davis is a medical director for the Houston Methodist Center for weight management and bariatric surgery. He went plant based after doing a life insurance policy test and finding out he had very high cholesterol and hypertension. He first went plant based around 2007 and went vegan about 2012.

Garth P. Davis, MD, FACS, FASMBS, graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Texas in Austin and attended medical school at Baylor College of Medicine where he was inducted to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. Davis completed his surgical residency at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where he was elected to the position of Chief Administrative Resident. He then started his career in Houston, Texas where he established The Davis Clinic and was an assistant professor of surgery at The University of Texas-Houston.
He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He is also boarded in medical management of obesity. Dr. Davis is the author of two books: Proteinaholic: How Our Obsession with Meat Is Killing Us and The Expert's Guide to Weight-Loss Surgery. In addition, he starred on a tv show called Big Medicine.
Having spent 20 years in the field of surgical and medical weight management, Dr. Davis is a recognized expert both surgical and medical management of obesity. He believes strongly in the comprehensive management of patients struggling with obesity. He is also a specialist in surgery of the foregut and has expertise in the management of reflux, heartburn, and achalasia.
