In 2012 I saw the movie Forks over Knives as recommended by a coworker and became immediately intrigued by the idea. I went vegan right then and continued for several years. However, I let the use of vegan butters seep into my diet, which stopped all progress and enabled the weight to come back on. After I retired in 2019, I got a new smart TV and started watching videos. In 2021 August I rediscovered Dr. John McDougal‘s starch solution book and watched his videos where he reminded people that oil is disastrous to health and losing weight. Once I gave up the oil the weight flew off. I lost the 40 pounds I wanted to lose and have basically been able to maintain that loss. I will go up a few pounds generally when I eat the super tasty new meat alternatives they have now but then I get back on track and it easily falls away again. I am 6 feet tall and have been as heavy as 235 pounds. I now way between 166 (my favorite weight) and 171.
Although I started this way for health, I love the fact that I’m not eating and causing harm to animals not to mention I’m not hurting the environment as much.
It is a bit lonely but I stay strong and feel I will never go back as eating animal products seems outdated and unnecessary.
