  • Melany Oliver Vegan Since:12/20/2019

I turned vegan in December 2019 after a spiritual experience. Before this, I did not believe in veganism, I was a full-on carnivore. That year, I did a lot of deep trauma work and started to develop my relationship with God. At the end of that year, in December 2019, I started to go off the smell of meat, even fresh meat, it was subtle and I didn't notice it at first. I didn't know what was happening to me, to be very honest. Then one day, I was praying for my family and my mother, who had abused me my whole life, and I finally felt love inside of me for her. This love was tangible, it was like a substance that poured out of my heart towards her and out of nowhere I said out loud "I love you mum". Mind you I had cut my mother out of my life in 2018, this was me alone, in my living room. I have never in my life felt love for my mother, I couldn't. I have no idea where this love came from, I surprized myself, it just came out of me. I realized that I had finally forgiven her. Immediately after this, I received an overwhelming waterfall of love from above. All I could do was cry. I cried for hours, and every time I thought about or spoke about that moment for months I cried. It was so beautiful, and for the first time in my life, I felt I had a mother (God). I believe I received a little of God's love that day. After this day, I couldn't eat meat, I went off the smell and started to feel the suffering the animals go through because of the meat industry. I cried for months over this, even the smell of fresh meat which I once didn't mind, smelled of death to me. I became super sensitive to the smell of meat and even the horrors that poor animal had to go through to be on my plate. I haven't eaten meat since. – This is the short version 🙂
