After Richard Solan told me he would be attending The Last Pig Screening I bought tickets for myself, my son and his grandmother. When I read that they were having a discussion panel I knew I would want to cover it to share with others.
I didn't even tell my mother in-law the details about where we were going, sneaky, I know ;). She's not vegan so I wasn't sure how she would take the surprise. I was so happy to find out she really enjoyed the screening and the discussion panel.
Just prior to this screening my family and I did some volunteer work at a local sanctuary, Changing Hearts Farm. The owners of the sanctuary, Richard and Carolyn Solan are an amazing couple dedicating their lives to the animals and movement. Richard was the one that invited me to the Screening.
This was a busy week. I was just about to start building this website. I also decided to take on building the website for Changing Hearts Farm as well as doing some videos and other content development work.
Around the same time I also learned of a new restaurant opening in Horse Shoe, North Carolina called Garlik Vegan Pizza. After I realized how much these places were dedicating their all I knew they could use the help. This was when I knew I would have to build something, VeganLinked, to potentially fund and enable me to offer my services free of charge and take advocacy to a whole new level.
That weekend my family and I volunteered at Changing Hearts Farm Richard really appreciated the video I threw together while helping them work on the farm. This really helped galvanize our friendship into something bigger. The Humane League of Charlotte put The Last Pig Screening event together. Richard introduced me to some of the people that work for The Humane League and now I am volunteering my services in a whole new, awesome direction!
