My Vegan Story :
I am a perfect example of fighting for some animals(animal activist) all my life and not knowing about my food until I was 47 and awakened. I became an animal activist after seeing a canned hunting event on tv when I was 20 and lost my mind at what I saw. This is before the internet so I found a group called CHARC and learned about many abuse's , but not the farming or our food(they are still going strong here in Chicago). It has been such a long journey and I have been an everyday activist since learning the truth, along with my 3 vegan daughters and wife. Happy to share my story that has struggles. I help open eyes everyday when I see an opening. Turned both my now 78 year old parents vegan as well. I used to help rescue Tibetans , but now only animals. I go to Slaughter houses (they are customers) and witness what they don't want us to see. I will not stop speaking up and fighting for the voiceless until my last breath. The guilt of not knowing sooner I feel doesn't leave. We must never give up!!! I have too much to discuss that would be a novel.

My Vegan Story :
Long story not cut short (showing the multiple steps):

When I was under 6 years old, my parents would catch fish from the ocean. I would swim in the ocean, but didn't like the smell or taste of the ocean water. So when I saw the fish, I had a hunch, and when I tasted it, it tasted like the same bad ocean taste, just with heavy metals (which I later found out is Mercury, but I would think it's others too. Tasted like lead, bromine, tin, among others). I only had 10 meals in my life that had seafood, and almost half were just taking one bite and disliking it, having it accidentally in my food, or pushed on me (I lived in a seafood community. My parents would share the fish with the entire neighborhood). Later on in life, seafood would make me ill (I just ate a lobster bisque to see if I could many years later, but then couldn't and didn't even taste good, as it was making me too swollen to eat it).

When I was 10, I decided to learn about health and took out maybe 10 books and read 6 from front to cover and glazed the rest. One was a dummies book. I liked to learn about subjects from A -> Z. At the time there was a vegetarian in my family, but since they ate chicken and fish, I didn't think of it (turns out there was another vegetarian who made me pancakes for my birthday dinner - I didn't know they were when I was 5/6 years old).

When I was 12, my friend said she was vegan. I gave her the typical spiel: 'where do you get your protein', 'why did you go vegan', and I said it wasn't for me and got disgusted. Later, I said she had an impact on my life when I was 12, I decided to do the opposite of McDonald's double quarter pounders with cheese, fries, and soda each week: go healthy. That was a turning point. I decided to change my taste buds to like yogurt instead of ice cream (I thought it was healthy until later I found out that it had 42 grams of sugar and the first ingredient was high fructose corn syrup followed by sugar). It took me 6 months. Around 3-4 months, I decided to go back to eating Big Macs, but they tasted terrible. I never went back.

This is when I feel I became a health influencer - for the entire world. Then I believe I started the health craze of 2003 - I went healthy and asked my city to as well (I said to put in a healthy vending machine in for kids, which they did years later, because they started a health program). Back then, there was verbnow, pass the plate (maybe that came later), and other programs along with all the diet books that I just read a lot about. Then I found out what I was eating wasn't healthy: the food said no trans fat - but it had it (under 0.5g).

So it took me 3-4 years to find the truly healthy food around 16 I ran into health problems, but the internet was just building and there were no answers to what is backed by a lot of knowledge today. So it made me really look into the question I always wanted to hear, but got no straightforward answer to: where did the beef come from? It was at the Isla Vista Co-op where I would read what I normally didn't see and hear what I normally didn't hear and there I found out about where food came from and didn't like it and went vegan then. I failed 5 times until I found out that I was missing Vitamin K2 (which is different than K1 and hindered my absorption of vitamins, especially zinc).

In that time though, when I was in college, there was a meat-free Monday and I thought I wouldn't make it, because my family always said: 3 sources of protein per meal. However, it tasted better. Also, at that time, I would eat steaks to donate blood until they said the iron's too low. Turns out beef doesn't have much iron, as the food with the most iron is thyme. Now my iron is in the normal range.

Still my health wasn't doing well (like muscle aches), so I became a vegetarian in 2011 instead and got better. My body changed to have a higher metabolism but more food sensitivities, as I changed my diet and what I ate as a kid (like soy), I couldn't eat anymore. I also did it for convenience, so that I wouldn't have to create a calendar to know what to eat when (like some fish every 2 months, beef every few days, etc.).

It took me 7-8 months to transition until my sister said, just do it already if you say you are. Years later, I told my sister I was a vegetarian, and she said: you're so cool. Someone I knew said: how do I go vegetarian. I became popular from it. Then she went vegan.

My health after 7 years of that declined more (I couldn't eat milk anymore, and eggs hurt my muscles), I went to a raw vegan meetup, and they were like: do it. So as I started to go vegan, my sister went less and less that way. Now I'm transitioning to being more raw (or at least uncooked), as that's what I prefer. My grandparents used to grow their own food and that helped me shape my viewpoints towards vegan food. I actually prefer the taste of plants, because I liked fruit as a kid. I feel better, but since I was rushed, instead of eased into the transitions, it's still hard to be vegan.

Along the way, I got a health science degree and it helped out many people become healthier and I notice when they stop being vegan, they get aches, pains, and severe health issues that they blame on age, when it's never on age.

Been on and off vegan diet for many years, started with vegetarian diet. Want to go total vegan, married to doctor who was brought up mostly vegetarian, had a severe mucus problem and sinus infection, have reneged a bit and eaten some dairy, some meat& fish (a few times a year) only for many decades now. Finally getting message about IGF-1, watch and following many advocates such as Dr. Vincent Longo, Dr. Milton Mills, Dr. Joel Fuhrman, Dr. Michael Greger, Dr. Neil Barnard, Dr. DeanOrnish, Dr. T. Colin Campbell of "The China Study", Dr. Esselstyn and his son Rip, author of "Engine 2 Diet", Dr. John Mc Dougall and many others. Am trying to go total vegan, may be using too much soymilk (according to Dr. Mills), want to get the balance better, overcome my "cultural" way of eating, digging into a "total" switch, which is a monumental task for anyone taking cues from wrong sources, such as the USDA food pyramid model. That's about it.

I heard about Dr. Gregor and his grandmothers amazing story about going plant based and not only getting herself out of a wheel chair, beating death, but she was walking ten miles a day from eating plant based for about a month. After diving in, I watched documentaries and podcasts, and audio books. I am also a huge animal lover and I felt like a hypocrite most of my life eating meat/dairy/etc knowing where it came from. Educating myself and taking off the blinders really helped me take the leap and now I am focused on trying to eat healthier and help support others to make the change.

Let’s turn your vegan website into a success story! As veganbusinesstrainer, I help vegan coaches, entrepreneurs and businesses launch professional websites that attract more customers – with you, in 1 day.

As a digital nomad and fitness enthusiast, I get to know vegan coaches, entrepreneurs and businesses in all parts of the world - and they want to motivate our fellow humans to lead a vegan, fulfilling and healthy life and they consider their own business. But most of them don't even start - out of perfectionism and fear of failure - or have websites where their customers don't buy their offers. When my contacts started earning more money with my tips, I knew: If my contacts work with my tips and start a successful vegan business, I can motivate other people to do the same!

I would like to pass on my experience as an online solo entrepreneur and help vegan coaches and vegan entrepreneurs to start their own business with confidence. With my experience and my implementation mindset, I am convinced that you can build a successful business and support other people in a vegan, fulfilling and healthy life.

Hi All,

Happy to meet you on this platform.

5 years ago after being 25 years living the Vegetarian life, my wife and I made one if the most important decision in our life and became full fledged Vegans.

My personal drive for actively promoting Veganism on social media and real life is my concern about the devastating impact of the animal protein diet and use of animal derived products on Health, Environment and Animal Welfare. Therefore I am very interested in the innovative plant-based products/services that are developed and introduced on the market every single day by inspiring Vegan entrepreneurs.

Clean-meat development I consider also interesting looking at the positive impact on environment and animal welfare (not necessary on health).

During my activities as Volunteer for The Dutch Vegan Society, I got connected to some enthusiastic Dutch Vegan entrepreneurs. Together we organized several successful meet-ups (with upto 100 attendees) for Vegan entrepreneurs and investors in The Netherlands.

Our group joined-up with The V-entrepreneurs Network [VEN] founded in Germany, and in corporation with several international colleagues and partners we are now scaling up VEN to a professional international operating network, with already working branches in multiple countries.

For more information about our network please visit and follow : https://www.vevolution.com/organisations/v-entrepreneurs-network

Our aim is to bring V-entrepreneurs offline together for support and knowledge exchange in a personal, trusted environment.

Professionally I work in the leading global technology company ABB as Bid & Proposal Engineer and in this role actively involved in the Energy Transition.

Looking forward to meet you during one of our v-entrepreneurs meet-ups or online via this platform or Linkedin.

Green greetings,

Richard

My sister has been plant based for 8 years. I always knew in the back of my mind that she was right. In 2019, I had a health scare and an ultrasound showed sludge on my gallbladder. My PCP sent me to a surgeon who told me that she could put me on medications or removed my gallbladder. She told me that the sludge was caused from meat, dairy and eggs, but didn't tell me about changing my lifestyle or nutrition. My sister recommended that I watch Forks Over Knives. I took the week off work and binge watched FOK, The Game Changers, What The Health, Cowspiracy, Earthlings and Dominion. I went vegan overnight. I've not slipped once and now I'm oil free. I'm also a certified personal trainer, a clinical plant based nutritionist, coach lifestyle medicine and a yoga instructor. I am making a huge impact.

My Vegan Story :
I’ve been vegan for 6 years and started out removing things from my diet for environmental concerns. I also had a growing concern for the well-being of animals. Through the close bond with my German Shepherd, Nikko, I started making the connection that his intelligence, his feelings, his ability to feel fear, pain, love, happiness were viscerally real and that all of the billions of animals that were killed each year for a few moments of pleasure on our plates were just like him. Still, their fate was much different for no other reason than tradition. It was then that I started on my journey.
Since then, I’ve come to realize that this was truly the greatest decision I’ve made in a life that’s been fortunate with amazing things. Today, I’m a working advocate in my small community in Raleigh, NC, and hoping to put this more into action with a new brand we created at my design studio, MRC, called Burny Wild’s. Its an adventure brand, with food being a core part of its offerings, starting with Burny Wild’s Adventure Sauce, which is literally my favorite condiment heat sauce. It’s super versatile, vegan, gluten-free, and flavor-packed. We hope to use this as an entry point to people being excited about living their best lives in harmony with love, kindness, and respect for all living beings.

An elevated PSA and tumor on an MRI showed probable prostate cancer -- with family history and work exposure making it 99.9% sure. Later, rising blood pressure, Chest Pain and ischemia (cardiac blockage) added to the problem.

A Whole Foods Plant based diet, without oils, salts , or sugar, along with exercise and key supplements reduced the tumor size in half and the PSA returned to normal -- make it clinically insignificant. Additionally, my blood pressure imrpoved to a better than textbook figure, and my chest pain disappeared within four months. All other signs and symptoms went back to excellent status, and I can exercise vigorously for hours without feeling winded or uncomfortable in any way. In fact, I have since climbed difficult hills here in Colombia, and other symptoms associateted with a blocked prostate totally vanished -- returning to my 19 year-old self. Amazing!!! Total body blockage and inflammation have dissappeared over the course of three years.

I did not take any medications provided by one of America's top hospitals, and declined biopsies, surgeries and catherizations with possible stints, instead opting for a WFPBD with supplements and intermittent fasting. I am being monitored, and will re-do all the cardiac tests in one year for complete cardiac health validation.

I told the doctors that if my path did not work, I would follow standard of care. My WFPBD worked miraculously, and there's no need for a conventional medical path for chronic conditions. In fact, with what I experienced, I consider conventional medicine medieval for most chronic conditions -- It's all in what you eat. I asked my cardiologist at one of America's top hospitals what I should eat, and he didn't respond. With that, I asked him what he eats at home, and responded with the DASH diet, or the standard American diet in moderation. I declined the pathway to moderate heart disease, moderate cancer or moderate diabetes, and instead went with the WFPBD and am glad I did. No wonder the majority of cardiologists die of heart disease, and most doctors have a life span of 65 years.

Why don't the doctors follow a WFPBD? I am astounded with what I've uncovered over the past three years.

I have always been a dedicated carnivore. I gained a lot of weight and attained 400 lbs, with an insulin pump, a1c of 12.4, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, restricted breathing due to the weight, couldn't move without effort and pain, couldn't walk more than 25 ft or stand for more than 2 min. So I had gastric bypass. I lost 160 lbs in one year because I couldn't hold any food down at all. It's been 3 yrs and I still can't hold down meat or drink cows milk without getting sick. I've come to realize that I can't depend on my old diet to live. I had lost a total of 200 lbs then I gained 50 back due to extreme sweet cravings. I started looking into alternative ways of eating while still getting my protein and meeting more of my nutrient needs. I was leaning towards Mediterranean, pescatarian, flexitarian but I started to look deeper and found youtube videos by Dr. Furhman, Dr. Colin Campbell, Forks over Knives, The Game Changers, etc and my thinking changed. I couldn't stand to hear the pigs screaming in pain or the thought of the emotional devastation of the separation of cows and their calves, the pain that chickens now live through because of overcrowding and hormones that make them grow too much and too fast. I found out I can get my protein from other sources without putting an animal in pain to do it. I am still on the journey and working on my diet with the goal of being fully vegan. I'm not eating meat at all, but I am still eating cheese and cooking with milk or cream when needed. I know there are alternatives to that and am researching product by product. I'm trying not to depend on processed vegan foods but concentrating on whole foods.

After being vegetarian on and off for 20 years, in 2019 I became whole-food plant based (WFPB) after reading the book The Whole Foods Diet by John Mackey and Dr. Alona Pulde and Dr. Matthew Lederman. I was shocked to learn how bad meat, dairy and eggs are for our health - they're literally killing us - so we made the switch the very next week! Our family ditched dairy and eggs and went fully plant based July 7th, 2019.

I continued to research and learn about WFPB eating, and inevitably stumbled across information about the impact of animal agriculture on the environment and the horrors of our treatment of non-human animals. This strengthened my resolve - we were not only going be a healthier family, we were doing the absolute best thing we could do for the environment, and living compassionately and not harming other sentient beings. I am now an ethical vegan, and animal liberation activist.

I just discovered your request that I contact you and therefore I am responding.
Although I am definitely influencing folks to become vegan, I have not always been 100%. I believe that “the perfect can be the enemy of the good.” I have no other vegans in my life and am extroverted, so being vegan remains a real challenge. I am also passionate about exercise (I started a running group decades ago in midMichigan and have run marathons), climate change, learning to love unconditionally and non duality. I follow Dr. McDougall and normally am not connected with the medical establishment. I believe that the medical industry is completely controlled by the drug companies and food industry. I take no prescription drugs or supplements. I am currently power walking six miles a day and have never had a real issue with weight. I have never suffered from chronic pain or had a serious illness. I am very grateful!
Thank you so much for your commitment to veganism!
Bless you.

My Vegan Story :
For the past several years I have noticed that I felt increasingly woozy starting in December until late April . Late April or early May is the time of year that dandelion, garlic mustard, wild onions, chives start to come up and I start to forage greens and I feel sharp, happy, energetic and healthy. I foraged as usual at the start of the pandemic in 2020 and started looking into getting more veggies into my diet through the winter. I figured that the store bought kale/chickory/beet tops/ other greens that I was buying in the winter would be less nutritious than what I picked in the summer so I'd have to eat more of them. As the pandemic progressed I started losing weight, little at a time, and all over my body. I felt great, had (and still have) lots of energy .
I started to research a program for introducing a plant based diet to a particular ethnic group that was experiencing high rates of obesity and diabetes and saw my diet being touted on several websites and videos. Watching and learning I thought that increasing the variety of greens and grains might be beneficial so I started to pick up a more varied selection of greens added different nuts and added some spices to my diet. Since I keep feeling better and better I figure I'm doing OK and will keep going. I seldom eat out at restaurants so I haven't had to find a vegan restaurant or find items on a regular menu that I can eat, and I still have an occaisional egg a little cheese, or even a small piece of steak when I'm in the mood. But I draw the line at added sugar, "thanks, but not for me" and refined flour. No bread, cake, ice cream etc. My only problem with my diet now, is that I seldom get hungry. I eat a lot of "green" and it seems to keep me feeling satisfied. guess I'm "almost" a vegan. Feeling relaxed about food, Jganvet

How I become a Vegan, here is my story of being vegan.
I started feeling good with myself when I was needed to make a change for Healthy life.
It was important step for my skin care routine and now I am feeling beautiful and glow. Don't eat processed products or go on unhealthy diets, Be bold for the things you want to be done with! Veganism means for me living like a child with clear and clean mind.
It simply gives it more meaning. For me is very important how do we take responsibility & use our own energy and what we do for our planet? All of this change me and the way of thinking. Now my body happy and thankful for being green and vegan.

Been vegan/plant-based since 2016! Encouraging patients to get more plants on their plate since 2016 too! As a Pediatrician I think it is imperative to change the mindset we have around food towards a plant-based plate rather than a meat centric plate and so I’ve been trying to help others on this journey as much as I can.

Weighted 544Lbs in 2013 changed my mind after having server back pain, went to the emergency room 4 times to get a diagnoses after going to the veterans in Durham NC; the doctor told me I had diverticulosis, an inflamed pancreas and fatty liver disease. I put on my clothes she asked: "Where are you going"? My reply was everything you just told me has to do with what I put into my own mouth. At that time I went on a 10 day water fast, in two to three days I has no more pain. I remained on only plant food and by the end of the year I weighted 270 lbs. I went back to eating meat and starting feeling sick, and my stomach started giving me pain. So I've began to return to plant based foods. And my body, life and mind has grown in every direction.

I was vegetarian for almost 30 years but still, I was Cognitive dissonant to the true plight of animals. With the birth of my daughter, my wife and I decided to take the big step of eliminating all animal products from our foods and from most of the items we use in our lives.

My Vegan Story :
My first exposure to veganism was when I moved to CO in 2008. I had a few friends in grad school that were vegan, and I had also joined a Kung Fu school where the instructors were vegan themselves. My instructors promoted the health benefits of a plant based diet. I remembered that one of them was talking to a fellow student, and they mentioned that 30% of cow's milk is legally allowed to be pus. That was the moment I knew I had to become vegan. It took me a few years to fully make the commitment, mostly because I was worried about what my family and friends would think of me. After moving back to NC, I then became an activist for the animals after learning what happens to animals in the industry.

Hi everyone! My name is Aida Rejzovic and I am a founder of Sassy Organics, an e-commerce vegan store based in Melbourne. I have been vegetarian for 22 years now, but I guess I did not realise the impact the egg and diary industry was having on animals. About 3 years ago, I became aware of this and turned vegan. Since then I have been helping others transition to vegan lifestyle.
