PBN is delighted to announce the premiere of its new documentary Vegan 2019 in Los Angeles’ Beverly Hills. In recent years, the vegan movement has skyrocketed; no longer a niche movement, the v-word now makes regular appearances in the mainstream. Data puts the number of vegans in the UK for example anywhere between 600,000 and 3.5 million, depending which source you look at.
In a bid to investigate this phenomenal growth, PBN Founder Klaus Mitchell created Vegan 2019. This documentary takes a deep-dive into how and why plant-based diets are rising to prominence, and looking at some of the most significant vegan moments from the year.
For the first time, fast-food giants put plant-based meat centre-stage. Burger King launched its Impossible Whopper, and KFC trialled plant-based chicken in the US and UK.
UK stalwart Greggs saw its profits soar after launching its now-viral vegan sausage roll, and plant-based tech company Beyond Meat launched on the NASDAQ.
While these innovations in animal-free food garnered debate, top athletes were showing how it’s not only possible to survive on a vegan diet, but thrive.
Tennis ace and plant-based dieter Novak Djokovic show mental and physical prowess beating Roger Federer in a thrilling five-set Wimbledon final.
And the link between athleticism and a plant-based diet was set to be explored even further, with the release of highly-anticipated documentary The Game Changers.
2019 saw more people become aware of the dangers of animal agriculture. This threat was hammered home when news of Amazon Rainforest blazes swept across mainstream media.
Millions of people pinned their hopes of change on teenage vegan climate activist Greta Thunberg, who fearlessly gave speeches in front of world leaders, blasting them for stealing the future of young people.
Vegan 2019 features leading names in the world of entertainment, sports, and animal advocacy, whose stories weave together to create a thrilling tapestry of this vibrant movement.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A featuring special guests.
Proceeds from the screening will be used to cover the cost of the event and support the work of Plant Based News.

Event Disruption: No Disruption
Join us for a special screening of the investigative documentary “Ma Ka Doodh: Uncovering A Nation’s Dairy Disaster” at the local library. This feature-length film dives deep into the untold stories behind India’s White Revolution, the world’s largest dairy production and development campaign.
Follow Dr. Harsha Atmakuri as he travels over 20,000 kilometers across India, conducting nearly 100 interviews with notable figures such as Smt. Maneka Gandhi, Sri Acharya Prashant, and Padma Shri awardee Smt. Sudevi Mataji. The documentary explores the ethical, cultural, environmental, religious, economic, social, and political complexities of dairy consumption in India and reveals the direct link between the dairy industry and India’s status as one of the largest exporters of beef.
Discover the negative impacts of the dairy industry on India’s bovine population, public health, environment, and culture, and explore sustainable and ethical solutions proposed in the film. The screening will be followed by a virtual Q&A session with the film’s director, offering an opportunity for an in-depth discussion about the documentary’s findings and its call to action for a more compassionate futur Read more...

PBW is bringing the plant-based movement to a MAINSTREAM audience!
Our world is changing each day. And the relationship that society has with the consumption of animal products is no longer sustainable for our health, or the health of our planet. The good news is that people are awakening to the most straightforward solution to this growing problem — they’re adopting a plant-based lifestyle.
PBW is the only event that provides a professional space where plant-based product manufacturers, food service providers, retailers, entrepreneurs, investors, healthcare professionals and consumers alike can receive world-class education, high level networking opportunities and the most up to date innovations in plant-based living. Join Dr. Sailesh Rao for a global Earth Day event to launch the 2020 Pinky Promise Tour: Presentations of “Healing the Earth and Preventing Our Extinction” via Zoom at 8am PDT, 1pm PDT, and 8pm PDT. Each presentation is followed by Q&A and discussion.
The Pinky Promise Tour is based on a pinky promise between Kimaya and her grandfather, Dr. Sailesh Rao, that he (and his friends) would create a Vegan World by 2026 to heal our earth and save her family — the animals.
Originally an in-person road show around North America, the Pinky Promise Tour is now virtual — and global — and with a solution that can not only help heal our climate and prevent species extinction, but can help heal 3 of the main risk factors for COVID-19 mortality (hypertension, diabetes and heart disease) and help prevent future zoonotic diseases. Our second annual VegFest is organized by a team of dynamic volunteers from the nonprofit organization Michiana VegFest, Inc. This will be a large event open to the public, free of charge. Our first festival was held at the University of Notre Dame and attracted 3,000 visitors! In 2019, we will offer a much larger venue.
Vegfests are increasingly popular around the country and around the world to promote plant-based eating and living for health, sustainability, and animal welfare. Our VegFest will include known speakers and chefs, several from our area. We will also have many vendors offering food and other products, and a fun-filled kids’ activities area, in addition to live music at a special performance by The Bergamot Duo.
Our mission is to bring together our northern Indiana and southwestern Michigan communities to explore an array of exciting flavors and options in the vastly expanding plant-based eating world. By sharing new vegan products and services and providing speakers, we promote plant-based diets for health, compassion and environmental conservation. We encourage everyone to make healthy food choices for their own lives and to support our local vegan-friendly businesses and organizations.
Michiana is increasingly vegan-friendly with supportive restaurants and businesses in South Bend, Mishawaka, Granger, Elkhart, Goshen, Michigan City, Fort Wayne, Niles, Berrien Springs, Three Oaks, Stevensville, Benton Harbor, St. Joseph, and Kalamazoo, to name only a few in Indiana and Michigan.
Michiana enjoys two active Meetup groups, VegMichiana Meetup in the South Bend area and Kalamazoo Meetup; two thriving Facebook groups, VegMichiana and Vegans of Michiana. Our region offers great resources for vegans, vegetarians and those curious about making the transition as well as an active, vibrant and supportive plant-based community. Our VegFest will bring them all together. Read more...

Branchfood is happy to announce that Food Edge, our annual conference, is taking place digitally on October 21-23, 2020. The food industry is experiencing unprecedented change. Now more than ever, it is essential for entrepreneurs, leaders, and researchers to understand the latest disruptions in the food industry and be innovative.
Food Edge brings together the industry’s largest brands, disruptive startups, and leading researchers to discuss the future of food. This year, we’re going digital, providing entrepreneurs and investors with key industry insights and actionable takeaways to help them adapt and succeed in the new normal. In line with our mission to catalyze innovation and provide valuable resources and connections to food entrepreneurs and investors, we’re hosting 3 tracks: Emerging Startups, Industry Trends, and Food Investment. Each half-day track includes industry panels/curated webinars and networking sessions, and is optimized to minimize regular workflow and drive maximum engagement and value to our attendees.
Just like in the previous years, we are inviting more than 20 leaders in the field to shed light on those transformations, reveal the latest trends and breakthrough technologies, and share their perspective on where they believe the industry is heading specifically in terms of agriculture, supply chain, retail, and consumption. Some of our speakers include Isha Datar, Executive Director of New Harvest; Adam Behrens, Co-Founder & CEO of Mori; Michele Fite, Chief Commercial Officer & Strategic Planning of Motif FoodWorks; Seth Goldman, Founder of Eat the Change; Jackie Suggitt, Director of Stakeholder Engagement at ReFED; Nick McCoy, Co-Founder of Whipstitch Capital; and more.

Virtual Documentary Night is a monthly online event hosted by Community Documentary Night. It is designed to give people the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions on a wide range of topics with people from various backgrounds. This event is in collaboration with Rise For Animals and Georgia Animal Rights and Protection. For this Special Virtual Documentary Night, in honor of Veganuary, we are meeting to talk about the documentary, The Animal People. This film looks into the radical animal rights campaign that shook multinational corporations to their core and the persecution of six activists. The film Directors will be joining us for a special guest Q&A! How this all works is you will first watch the film on your own prior to our event. Then we will meet on Zoom on the day of the event, where you participate in multiple rounds of small group discussions with a different discussion prompt and different randomized groups for each round. This gives you the opportunity to hear a variety of perspectives throughout the night. Then we will follow with the special guest Q&A! You must watch the film on your own BEFORE the event.
