Our second annual VegFest is organized by a team of dynamic volunteers from the nonprofit organization Michiana VegFest, Inc. This will be a large event open to the public, free of charge. Our first festival was held at the University of Notre Dame and attracted 3,000 visitors! In 2019, we will offer a much larger venue.
Vegfests are increasingly popular around the country and around the world to promote plant-based eating and living for health, sustainability, and animal welfare. Our VegFest will include known speakers and chefs, several from our area. We will also have many vendors offering food and other products, and a fun-filled kids’ activities area, in addition to live music at a special performance by The Bergamot Duo.
Our mission is to bring together our northern Indiana and southwestern Michigan communities to explore an array of exciting flavors and options in the vastly expanding plant-based eating world. By sharing new vegan products and services and providing speakers, we promote plant-based diets for health, compassion and environmental conservation. We encourage everyone to make healthy food choices for their own lives and to support our local vegan-friendly businesses and organizations.
Michiana is increasingly vegan-friendly with supportive restaurants and businesses in South Bend, Mishawaka, Granger, Elkhart, Goshen, Michigan City, Fort Wayne, Niles, Berrien Springs, Three Oaks, Stevensville, Benton Harbor, St. Joseph, and Kalamazoo, to name only a few in Indiana and Michigan.
Michiana enjoys two active Meetup groups, VegMichiana Meetup in the South Bend area and Kalamazoo Meetup; two thriving Facebook groups, VegMichiana and Vegans of Michiana. Our region offers great resources for vegans, vegetarians and those curious about making the transition as well as an active, vibrant and supportive plant-based community. Our VegFest will bring them all together. Read more...

PBW is bringing the plant-based movement to a MAINSTREAM audience!
Our world is changing each day. And the relationship that society has with the consumption of animal products is no longer sustainable for our health, or the health of our planet. The good news is that people are awakening to the most straightforward solution to this growing problem — they’re adopting a plant-based lifestyle.
PBW is the only event that provides a professional space where plant-based product manufacturers, food service providers, retailers, entrepreneurs, investors, healthcare professionals and consumers alike can receive world-class education, high level networking opportunities and the most up to date innovations in plant-based living. PBN is delighted to announce the premiere of its new documentary Vegan 2019 in Los Angeles’ Beverly Hills. In recent years, the vegan movement has skyrocketed; no longer a niche movement, the v-word now makes regular appearances in the mainstream. Data puts the number of vegans in the UK for example anywhere between 600,000 and 3.5 million, depending which source you look at.
In a bid to investigate this phenomenal growth, PBN Founder Klaus Mitchell created Vegan 2019. This documentary takes a deep-dive into how and why plant-based diets are rising to prominence, and looking at some of the most significant vegan moments from the year.
For the first time, fast-food giants put plant-based meat centre-stage. Burger King launched its Impossible Whopper, and KFC trialled plant-based chicken in the US and UK.
UK stalwart Greggs saw its profits soar after launching its now-viral vegan sausage roll, and plant-based tech company Beyond Meat launched on the NASDAQ.
While these innovations in animal-free food garnered debate, top athletes were showing how it’s not only possible to survive on a vegan diet, but thrive.
Tennis ace and plant-based dieter Novak Djokovic show mental and physical prowess beating Roger Federer in a thrilling five-set Wimbledon final.
And the link between athleticism and a plant-based diet was set to be explored even further, with the release of highly-anticipated documentary The Game Changers.
2019 saw more people become aware of the dangers of animal agriculture. This threat was hammered home when news of Amazon Rainforest blazes swept across mainstream media.
Millions of people pinned their hopes of change on teenage vegan climate activist Greta Thunberg, who fearlessly gave speeches in front of world leaders, blasting them for stealing the future of young people.
Vegan 2019 features leading names in the world of entertainment, sports, and animal advocacy, whose stories weave together to create a thrilling tapestry of this vibrant movement.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A featuring special guests.
Proceeds from the screening will be used to cover the cost of the event and support the work of Plant Based News.

The Pinky Promise Tour is based on a pinky promise between Kimaya and her grandfather, Dr. Sailesh Rao, that he (and his friends) would create a Vegan World by 2026 to heal our earth and save her family — the animals.
Originally an in-person road show around North America, the Pinky Promise Tour is now virtual — and global — and with a solution that can not only help heal our climate and prevent species extinction, but can help heal 3 of the main risk factors for COVID-19 mortality (hypertension, diabetes and heart disease) and help prevent future zoonotic diseases.
