- One can of black beans
- 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 1/4 cup almond flour
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 and 1/2 tbsp unsweetened applesauce. I usually just blend a chopped up apple with some lemon.
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 of a cup vegan chocolate chips, at least.
- 1/3 cup chopped walnuts
Bake at 350 for 25 minutes. Let cool for an hour unless you like them really hot and gooey like I do. Just look at that gooey, magnificent chocolatey delicacy!
Special thanks to Healthy Girl Kitchen who I adopted this recipe from.
I remember the first time hearing about black bean brownies thinking it was a little odd sounding. But I swear every time I make these they get better.
Another brownie recipe I really enjoy is Dr Greger’s five ingredient no bake brownies in his How Not to Diet Cookbook (my affiliate link:). Those are super healthy brownies. But, for a more nostalgic brownie these black bean brownies are legit.
Back in the day before I started really getting into making things from scratch in the kitchen I experimented with veganizing some brownie mixes. I found a gluten-free brand that looked like it had decent enough ingredients. So instead of egg I used flax and water and instead of oil I used applesauce or bananas. That turned out really amazing too. But nothing beats making things from scratch.
