My Vegan Story :
I found Dr. Danielle Belardo's podcast through some co-workers, and learned so much right out of the gate. I wanted to get off my statin medication and also to help the inflammation in my knees so I could actively exercise again. I'm happy to say that my cholesterol is coming down, so I'm planning to go off the statin soon, and I'm exercising 5-6 days per week. I'll never go back to the standard American diet!

My Vegan Story :
I come from a working-class family in the UK and grew up just outside south-east London in a council flat. My mum would serve us things like beef burgers and chips for dinner. One day I asked her where beef burgers came from and was horrified to learn they were once a living cow. I always felt close to animals — I adored my cat, Kitty, who I grew up with, and once I made the connection that burgers were made of cows, the roast chicken dinner meant that a bird was killed for my dinner and that fish fingers were once actual living fishes, I went vegetarian although I didn’t know the term at the time.

But it wasn’t until 1996, at the age of 30, that I became vegan, even though I did some animal rights activism in the late 80s — somehow I missed the vegan memo. I was on a coach trip with other activists to a big anti-vivisection demo and a lovely schoolteacher I was sitting next to declined my offer to share my Marmite and cheese sandwich, even though I enthused to her that the cheese was ‘vegetarian’ with ‘no animal rennet’.

She kindly explained the cruelty involved in the dairy industry to me and I was so shocked and also guilty that I didn’t know this already. The next day I ordered my Animal Free Shopper Guide from the UK Vegan Society and was stunned at all the ways we exploit, use and abuse animals for everyday products. I pretty much went vegan overnight.

After a career in journalism that spanned more than 20 years, in 2015 I wrote the world’s first vegan business book Vegan Ventures and launched the first ever vegan business podcast, sharing the stories of hundreds of vegan entrepreneurs.

👉 Now I use strategic storytelling to help vegan and plant-based leaders find, craft, and share short, impactful stories that will ethically influence your audiences – whether that's customers, investors, employees or corporate higher-ups.

Oh and I love glitter, bling, disco, and ABBA.

My cancer diagnosis led me to my doctoral research in search of the Ideal Diet For Humans. By following this whole-food, mostly plant-based diet, I healed from cancer and got my energy and vitality back. Then one day a friend sent me a video of Gary Yurofsky's lecture. I became vegetarian when I was 13 years old after realizing that the cows I saw on the pastures out in the country near my cousin’s house were the same cows that were in the burgers I would get at McDonald’s with my grandma every Friday. From then on, I grew to learn more about factory farming and couldn’t turn back. Once I went to college and made my own meals, I became fully vegan and have never felt better!

My health was very poorly till the spring of 2015. I then started to receive even more callings from my inner self telling me to do healthier changes, since i smoked for 25 years and used to have a very hedonist life. In July 2015 i decided to move again to the UK and detached from everything in my country Portugal, sold the car and moved on to a new phase and to try again some self healing. In September 2015 i was able to quit smoking completely. March 2016 was the last time i visited a doctor after a spiritual awakening that led me to study all about my neurotransmitters in order to repair them, since they were all out of order due to 13 years of chemicals medical prescriptions to treat anxiety and depression, and other ailments, it also led me to work on my chakras after i learned all about this and others related therapies, and after this i became a vegetarian on the 16 of March 2016. I had became my own ayurveda doctor and spiritual guru. In March 2016 i was diagnosed pre diabetic, so in order to overcome and controle that issue, which what i had all my life, fats metabolism and bad energy management, i became a vegan and all the remaining health issues just faded away.

My Vegan Story :

My Vegan Story :
My husband and I watched What The Health and immediately we were plant based. We had our three young teens watch it the next morning. We homeschool so this was educational and we told them to do research after watching it and then they can make the choice of whether a plant base diet is the best for them. We never want them to say we forced them into anything.

After the documentary they all cleaned out our pantry, fridge, and freezer and we went grocery shopping. Four days later my husband and I watched Earthlings... that morning, my husband said he could never be vegan because he loves his leather jacket. Well after we watched Earthlings, he didn't say a word. He got up, took his jacket out of the closet and said, with tears running down his face "I will NEVER wear this again". He gave it to Good Will and he threw away his leather wallet.

Our oldest son found vegan leather wallets for them. We didn't let the kids watch Earthlings but I would try and tell them about it and every time, all I could do was cry. That was enough for them. We did buy the video so that if at any time they want to watch it they can.

Our oldest son, who is now almost 18, graduated from college 2 weeks ago. In one of his classes, the semester after becoming vegan, he did a report and presentation about it. The whole class was crying and his professor finally told him he could be done. He got an A. After class he was bombarded in the all with questions from classmates of all different ages and walks of life. That was a very proud moment for this mama.

This last semester in his ethics class, his professor knew he was vegan and for the final oral debate his group had to defend why animal testing is good. The professor is also vegan and told my son that he put him in this group on purpose. My husband and I didn't know anything about this until after the it was over. He said everyone in the class was supposed to stay quite during all speeches and not even clap. He got up there and said, in short "Without animal testing, our would would be in ruins because if the radioactive spider didn't bite Peter Parker, then the Green Goblin would have destroyed the world". He said the class erupted in clapping and laughing. The professor just looked at him, grinned and nodded his head. He received and A for that one too.

So we are vegan for the animals and we have never looked back. We owned a very successful bakery for 10 years making those big beautiful cakes that you see on TV. We were not on TV even though everyone told me I need to be. We closed down the business the day after we watched Earthlings. It was a no brainer. I wasn't going to purchase animal products anymore.

We still had orders on the schedule for the following year and I fulfilled those but I didn't take any new orders. The business was officially closed and out of business August 2018 but I still get weekly calls of people begging me to make their cakes. I politely tell them no.

We have learned so much in the past two years. We started a new business, vegan candles. They're 100% made in the USA, nontoxic, etc., and after 8 months of research and development we launched April of 2018. When we go to markets, shows, events etc. we get to meet and educate people about veganism, why our candles are vegan, what we stand for, and why we are vegan. And they get to see that vegans are not assholes like the world makes them out to be, lol. Well, some are but you have those in every group.

People love our product and what we stand for. Our customers keep coming back whether they find us at an event that is listed on our online calendar or by ordering on our website. We were even on a lot of Christmas lists this past Christmas so that was kind of cool. When our kids are grown and able to be on their own, in about 2 years, my husband and I are going to RV full time and travel our country going to markets, events, shows, etc. that are vegan and non vegan to meet new people, educate, and sell our candles. For right now we stick with the few states that are in a 9 hour driving distance.

This is our story. I can't wait to see how it grows over the years!

I was a fairly new vegetarian when I visited Farm Sanctuary in California. After spending the day there, I learned about the dairy industry. At that very moment, I, along with both of my teenage (at the time) children became vegan. In 2012, there were not as many choices, nor was it as accepted as it is now. Never ever thought of looking back. It's one of the best decisions I've ever made.

During this period, I had transitioned fairly seamlessly from an omnivorous junk food diet, to highly processed, vegan junk so I was a poor candidate to discuss, let alone showcase the health benefits of whole food, plant-based veganism. Documentaries like What the Health and Forks over Knives along with compelling literature such as The China Study and How Not to Die were pivotal influences in my decision to give up junk food, take control of my health and become a “poster boy” for plant-based eating.

My Vegan Story :
I began working on our global environmental crises in Dec 2005 after watching former Vice President Al Gore's global warming presentation on TV. By Nov 2006, I had a suspicion that if we restore forests on the land used for grazing farmed animals, that might completely reverse climate change. However, there were no peer-reviewed scientific papers reaching that conclusion and I was deeply puzzled by the scientific literature that indicated that my dairy consumption as a lacto-vegetarian was only a little bit worse than going vegan.

In Dec 2008, I was visiting the village of Karech in Rajasthan, India, where people had built a stone fence in 2002 to protect 250 acres of common land from cows and goats grazing on that land. To the left of the fence, I could see barren land with old dairy cows walking around eating anything that was growing on the ground and to the right, I could see a lush green forest. I immediately realized that the scientific literature was minimizing the impact of dairy production, while assigning the majority of the ecological burden of cattle rearing on beef production. In that village where people treated the cows as sacred and did not kill them even after their milk production had declined, the ecological devastation caused by dairy production was being fully revealed.

I went Vegan on the spot.

Within a week after I went Vegan, I felt a huge sense of guilt lift off my shoulders. I had been subconsciously carrying that guilt since the age of seven when I had first understood that I was consuming the milk intended for the baby calf and not me. Within a month after I went Vegan, I lost all my arthritic pains, sinus inflammation, acid reflux and hemorrhoids, and I felt like a sixteen year old again.

Though it began through an environmental portal, my Vegan journey encompassed the ethical and health aspects within a month or so. Today, I am committed to fulfill a pinky promise I made to my granddaughter, Kimaya, that the world will be largely Vegan before she turns 16 on Nov 19, 2026.

I never ate another animal again! I didn't learn about the rest until 19 years later, and I continue to learn more every single day. We went vegan in 2015. My son did it the same day, despite me trying to convince him to wait and let me try it first. I'm so thankful he had more sense than me at 5 years old! My Vegan Story :
I was a microbiologist working in the pharmaceutical industry and touring animal labs and farms as part of my work. This enabled me to realize that the normalized violence inflicted upon animals on farms and in labs was a direct result of my own personal food choices. Becoming vegan was my response to the disturbing things I witnessed.

I married Joe and we had two healthy vegan pregnancies. The parenting journey has been the highlight of my life. Wanting to give our children the best possible odds for a healthy and good life inspired me to do a lot of research and some of my views about what is best for our health changed as a result.

But the bedrock of our family has been being vegan, which provided an ethical framework and has been an incredible blessing in other ways too, including helping me to see that the same kinds of conflicts-of-interest and biased science that have supported big ag have also misled the public about many other important "choices" we have and what we believe to be "true."

Our born-vegan daughters not only survived our pioneering vegan parenting -- but made it all the way into adulthood without ever taking antibiotics and never having broken any bones (in spite of one being a gymnast who did back handsprings on the balance beam -- and was the only member of her competitive team to have never broken a bone.) Our older daughter Sarina now does vegan education and blogs on YouTube as "Born Vegan."

My vegan transition was very quick. Around halloween 2013 my daughter asked me to watch a video with her...sneaky. It was the documentary Vegecated. After watching it she asked me if I would do the 6 week challenge with her. I agreed and we watched more videos on nutrition and food preparation. After about 2 weeks we decided that this was a sustainable of living. While it was challenging at first to read all the labels in the grocery store, little by little it became easier. While initially I chose veganism for my health, my conviction to stay on this path is for the animals and for the environment. I truly believe that the future health of our planet is dependent on a total transition to plant based lifestyle for all humans. And as a byproduct of compassionate living we will eradicate all forms of oppression and hate.

My Vegan Story :
My vegan story is unusual. The abridged version is: I experienced secondary trauma when I was 23, and something about that opened my mindheart to the connection between meat and violence. I never ate animals again.

My Vegan Story :
We were vegetarians for about 25 years and went vegan about 3 years ago. We only wish we did it sooner. We learned about the dairy industry and the terrible suffering of the cows and wanted nothing to do with it. We also learned the truth about the egg industry and it made us sick. Vegan for life!

My Vegan Story :
I am from Indiana, every meal is based around meat. I never thought I would ever become Vegan. Last May I went on a trip with a friend and she pointed out how I had went a whole 5 days without meat. I felt great. I decided to eliminate meat from my diet. A month later I watched Dr Rao’s ‘What the Health’, it changed the game for me. I decided at that moment that I was done with animal products. I realize how deep the program runs. I am now Vegan for the Animals and I feel a deep connection to their pain. I am a guardian of the Earth. We are all part of this gift.

My Vegan Story :
The day I decided to become vegan was the day when I went to the emergency room. I had already been a vegetarian for six years prior and swore I wouldn't give up cheese. Prior to going to the ER, I had eaten my mom's mac and cheese, her banging sour cream mashed potatoes, and a whole lot of sweets loaded in dairy. Two days later I ended up in the ER from eating too much of the dairy products amd they said they might have to remove my gall bladder. Luckily, I passed call stones in doctors care amd decided from that day forward that I will not eat dairy again! Since then, it has been interesting creating new and uniquely different meals. Becoming vegan has opened my eating pallet a totally different way!

Joined a petition against a church's pig rassle, then saw undercover vidoes of animal ag. Devastated, but it woke me up, realized it was wrong to eat animals. Did tons of research, learned about agriculture, who the animals are, what sentience means, what vegan means, ahimsa; learned about health, resources, and wild lives. All are thoroughly, negatively impacted by raising animals, fowl, fish, and insects for food. Continue to research and advocate for the many reasons to go vegan.

I was pescaterian for a year, at 57 years old, decided to go vegan a year into it. As much as I liked the taste of meat, I never wanted anyone to die for me. So, I said, no more. Better late than never! Now I am WFPB certified. A volunteer with a local vegan/animal rights group. I protest, do investigations and anything else I can to to promote animal welfare and compassion.
